L2A CDU installation requirements split across three moments: conditions confirmed before delivery, configuration verified on arrival, performance measured at commissioning. This page covers the first.

The parent article lists these conditions under L2A installation requirements on site. What follows asks what the evidence can establish, since a catalogue figure, a confirmed requirement and an acceptance value differ.

## Floor Loading and the Structural Check

The floor answers three questions: the reaction it receives, the allowance it carries, and what delivery adds.

### Running Load and Support Reactions

The running case starts from confirmed operating mass, support geometry, and the reaction at each support. [CDU4175 L2A 175kW](https://www.gerchamp.com/en-US/products/liquid-to-air-cooling-distribution-unit-175kW) ([Agent MD](https://www.gerchamp.com/en-US/products/liquid-to-air-cooling-distribution-unit-175kW/raw.md)) publishes an assembly mass pair of 485/501 kg and a wet floor-loading field of 625 kg/m². What each field means depends on the delivered configuration and the project, For details, contact us.

A kg/m² entry expresses mass per area. Multiplication by gravitational acceleration gives an average force per area, while a support reaction is a force at a specified point. Neither an average area figure nor total mass establishes individual foot or castor reactions without the support arrangement and load distribution.

Use the centre of gravity, support spacing, floor condition and permitted handling method, with transport and temporary concentrated loads checked separately.

### Structural Criteria at the Position

The structural side supplies its own number: slab capacity, panel rating, pedestal load or a designed allowance for new equipment.

A raised floor carries load per panel and per pedestal, so a hall average hides the position that matters.

Where the position fails, a plate, plinth or frame enters scope, and each changes rigging height and access.

### Handling State and Packing

The handling case is a third set of figures, and the packing decides them.

A 501 kg assembly in a crate differs from 501 kg on castors. Transport mass and dimensions follow the packing, and they are measured against the narrowest point on the route.

## Airflow Clearance and the Air Path

A clearance protects a path. It creates no capacity, and moving a unit away from a wall does not add cooling.

### System Capability of the Hall

The unit hands its heat to room air, and the room system carries it from there. Adding an L2A unit spends part of the margin a hall already holds.

The survey checks the design basis and leaves the heat balance alone: target load, redundancy state, and whether the room holds setpoint with it added. Two units can pass local checks and still exceed the room together.

### Local Inlet and Discharge Conditions

Both faces need room to draw and discharge. A wall, tray or stored pallet distorts flow and raises the resistance the fan works against.

Warm discharge returning to the intake raises local ambient, and the effect grows at a row end or beside a return opening. Containment adds a boundary the unit has to sit inside.

Gerchamp publishes 35 °C as the ambient figure for the 175 kW unit. Whether that figure is a design condition, an operating range or a maximum follows the delivered configuration.

An airflow clearance protects the coil and fan faces, and a service clearance protects the doors, filter change and pump swap. Both come from the installation drawing, and the datum is not always the coil face.

### Condensate as a Conditional Item

In normal operation the coil runs warmer than the air it rejects to, so it stays above the room dew point. Water needs a cold surface and a local dew point above it at the same time.

A cold start and fluid below room temperature are candidates, and neither guarantees condensation in a conditioned hall.

The unit's own arrangement decides the response, so the condensate path follows that arrangement. A drain follows whether it is gravity or pumped, and the trap follows the pressure condition. Pouring water through a pan proves a route, and it does not prove behaviour at operating pressure. For details, contact us.

## Site Interfaces for Power, Controls and Liquid

Mechanical checks get the attention, and the interfaces decide whether the unit runs on the day it lands.

### Supply, Protection and Earthing

The electrical survey starts from the input: voltage, phase, frequency, connection type and current at full load. The 12.5 kW figure and the N+1 note that Gerchamp publishes describe power and redundancy, and they do not describe the supply.

Protection, isolation and earthing belong on the drawing. Confirm the upstream device rating, the isolation point and who provides each.

### Controls and Monitoring Points

Confirm that local regulation and protection operate as specified, then define the remote monitoring interface. Gerchamp lists HMI, Modbus, and SNMP for [CDU4175 L2A 175kW](https://www.gerchamp.com/en-US/products/liquid-to-air-cooling-distribution-unit-175kW) ([Agent MD](https://www.gerchamp.com/en-US/products/liquid-to-air-cooling-distribution-unit-175kW/raw.md)), but a protocol name alone does not specify the accessible functions.

Require a versioned point list, units, alarm map, quality and fault states, polling expectations, and any authorised writes. Communication loss must be distinguished from loss of local control. Point-to-point tests verify the delivered implementation.

### Liquid Circuit Connections

The liquid side carries its own checks: port position and type, hose route and bend radius, coolant compatibility, design flow and available differential at the manifold.

Port position decides the hose route, and the route decides whether a service clearance survives. A coupling behind a door turns a service item into a rigging item.

Design pressure is a separate field. Gerchamp publishes below 2 bar on the secondary side of the 175 kW unit, while operating pressure and its setpoint are set with the project.

## Retrofit Site Survey and Sign-Off

A retrofit survey produces decisions with evidence attached, and each document settles one thing.

### Evidence and Its Limits

A photograph with a tape proves a distance. A calculation proves an allowance. A power study proves capacity. None proves airside performance at load, and a commissioning test does not prove the structure afterwards.

| Item | Evidence | Settles before delivery | Stays open |
| ---------------- | --------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------ |
| Support reaction | Gerchamp figure, structural calculation | Whether the position carries the unit | Settlement at load |
| Air path | Measured obstructions, layout | Whether the faces stay clear | Inlet temperature at load |
| Room capacity | Design basis, load schedule | Whether the hall absorbs the heat | Setpoint held at commissioning |
| Interfaces | Single-line diagram, point list | Whether power, controls and liquid connect | Point-to-point verification |
| Route | Measured widths, heights, turns | Whether the unit reaches the position | Handling damage on the day |

### Open Items and Handover

Typical blocking items include a reaction the floor cannot take with no plinth in scope, an air path that recirculates with no baffle planned, a route that cannot take the transport dimensions, a supply that cannot carry the load, and an unconfirmed liquid interface.

Each needs an owner, a solution and a date.

The sign-off records the confirmed figures, the documents behind them, the open items and the as-found condition of the hall. That record is the input to commissioning.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Is the wet floor load the structural design figure?**
It is an input whose area and operating configuration must be known. Structural review also needs individual support reactions and concentrated-load acceptance.

**How much clearance does an L2A CDU need?**
The airflow, maintenance and replacement clearances come from the installation drawing, measured from its stated datums.

**Does an L2A CDU need a drain?**

Assess credible surface temperatures against local dew point and use the protection and condensate arrangement of the model you select. Do not infer a drain or wet-coil approval from the architecture alone.

**Can the unit move in through a standard door?**
Check actual transport width, height, depth, turning space, mass, and handling method against the entire route.

## The Bottom Line

L2A CDU installation requirements reduce to four groups: support reactions against a structural allowance, a hall able to absorb the heat with the faces clear, interfaces for power, controls and liquid, and a route that takes the delivery configuration.

The evidence settles different things. A drawing settles a clearance, a calculation settles a reaction, and a commissioning test settles performance at load.
